Consultation: East Midlands Freeport Strategic Infrastructure Plan

Residents are being invited to comment on new planning guidance linked to the East Midlands Freeport developments in our region.
North West Leicestershire District Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and South Derbyshire District Council have jointly published a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that sets out how major infrastructure will be funded and delivered to support the Freeport sites.
The consultation is being managed by Rushcliffe Borough Council on behalf of all three authorities.
What the document covers
The draft SPD explains how funding contributions from developers will help provide the strategic infrastructure needed to support Freeport growth, including:
Transport infrastructure
Energy and power supply
Utilities and supporting services
The aim is to ensure that the infrastructure required for new development is delivered in a coordinated and collaborative way across the region.
Freeport sites included
The guidance relates to the three main East Midlands Freeport locations:
East Midlands Airport and Gateway Industrial Cluster (EMAGIC) Located within North West Leicestershire.
Former Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station site Located within Rushcliffe Borough.
East Midlands Intermodal Park (EMIP) Located within South Derbyshire.
The document also explains how other strategic developments in surrounding areas may contribute to the infrastructure where they benefit from it.
