Parking Considerately in Hatton

Hatton Parish Council has seen an increase in complaints regarding inconsiderate parking throughout the village. We are asking all residents, visitors and parents dropping off or collecting children from school to please think carefully about where they park and the impact it can have on others.
Parking on pavements creates serious difficulties for pedestrians, particularly wheelchair users, people with pushchairs, blind and partially sighted people, and those with reduced mobility. Blocked pavements force people into the road, making everyday journeys less safe and reducing independence for many members of our community.
We have also received reports of vehicles parking too close to junctions, blocking private driveways, parking on bends, and narrowing roads by parking on both sides of the street. These situations can create dangerous visibility issues for motorists and pedestrians and may also restrict access for emergency service vehicles.
The Parish Council kindly asks everyone to be considerate when parking and to follow the guidance below.
Driving to School? Please Remember:
‘School Keep Clear’ markings are clearways, meaning no stopping and no parking, even briefly to drop off or collect passengers.
These markings exist to ensure children can clearly see traffic when crossing the road safely before and after school.
Avoid parking opposite zig-zag markings, particularly if this means mounting the pavement.
Keep junctions clear to maintain visibility for children and other pedestrians.
Do not park on bends where visibility is already limited.
Avoid blocking driveways, turning around in residents’ driveways, or parking on grass verges.
Consider parking further away from school and walking the final part of the journey. This not only reduces congestion but also encourages children to develop road safety awareness and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of walking.
Keep pavements clear at all times. Nobody should be forced into the road because of parked vehicles.
Turn off your engine once parked to help reduce pollution around the school environment.
Please Do Not:
Park on double yellow lines or School Keep Clear markings
Block dropped kerbs or pedestrian crossings
Block residents’ driveways
Park within 10 metres of a junction
